Peace Talks Break Down– North Pacific Declares War on New North Pacific
Tygra Black: The ongoing conflict between North Pacific and New North Pacific was escalated by the voting down of a peace treaty proposed by North Pacific founder Kalagan, in an attempt to unify the two regions.
Relations between these two have been shaky ever since the formation of New North Pacific, which was created as a place of refuge for nations wishing to escape harsh new laws implemented in North Pacific. Led by Cheskov Islands, New North Pacific soon became the new home to many long-standing members of Kalagan's region.
The North Pacific founder admitted the new policies were harsh, and soon reverted to the older system. In an interview, he gave a run-down of the events leading up to the creation of the treaty. 'I realised that the New North Pacific leaving had damaged the North Pacific, so I reverted to my old policies and campaigned for the New North Pacific nations to return. Snogger, their delegate, agreed eventually and returned with significant support, soon becoming the delegate and gaining access to regional controls.
Snogger, however, was a puppet of Borgidiom, a nation I had ejected from North Pacific many months ago for violating our regional rules. I knew Snogger's true identity and he was aware of this also. We had negotiated a new beginning and I placed my trust in him.
This was misplaced, for as soon as he became delegate he griefed the whole region, ejecting 109(approx) nations to the rejected realms. The moderators deleteted him for his crimes. As a result there are currently very strained relations between the North Pacific and New North Pacific, although there are hopes for reconcilliation and North Pacific is now recovering.'
Upon inquiring as to whether the griefing was an act of aggression planned by the NEW NORTH PACIFIC or just the lashing out of one angry nation, Kalagan stated that Cheskov Islands did have prior knowledge of Snogger's plans. His choice to remain silent on the issue until after the stike led to the creation of the treaty, in hopes that any conflict would end there. It was put to vote on the New North Pacific Civil Headquarters, but was met by heavy criticism. One of the stipulations in particular, which demanded the banning of several prominent members of New North Pacific, angered many New North Pacificans enough to give it an overwhelming 'No'.
Now, things appear to be worse than before, as Kalagan has called his region to arms. 'I officially declare a state of war between this region and New North Pacific. The recent griefing of this region was carried out by nations based in that region and in an attempt by me to end the dispute without conflict, I offered peace to Cheskov in return for the ejection of the deleted Snogger's puppets, allies and other enemies of the region.
That proposal has been turned down and now we face the problem of dealing with the New North Pacific by other means. We shall wage war on the New North Pacific in whatever way possible under the NationStates rules.'
Although Cheskiv was unavailable for interview, his response to the North Pacific threats were made public on the boards of both regions. 'He'll have it his way then : the negotiations are off. Negotiating is a two-way thing, and he just can't dictate us what to do. If our democratic values mean nothing to him (why aren't we surprised at that?), what on earth do we have to trust him? We'll defend this region.
In addition, and responding to concerns made by various nations recently, we'd like to add that we will not tolerate any (uNorth Pacificrovoked) attack on North Pacific or Kalagan conducted from this region. We want peace, we'll just ignore North Pacific and Kalagan... Anyone who tries to stir up Kalagan even more, poses a serious threat to our own security, and risks getting ejected, as we will guard our security firmly!'
While things have been seemingly calm for the moment, New North Pacific nations are remaining watchful, and a passsword has been put in place to protect the region. It's difficult to predict how this conflict will resolve, or if it will at all. Despite the tension resulting from the rejected treaty, many nations have been bidding for a peaceful solution. Cheskov Islands summed it up well with his message to North Pacific: 'We want peace with your region. Seems it's not possible to have it with your founder, perhaps we can have it with all the rest of you... We won't bother you anymore, please don't bother us... Let us just co-exist within this extensive NationStates world.'
