Atlantic Alliance dissolved; ADN complains of boredom
Lari Sup, Atlantic: Once one of the most powerful organizations in Nationstates, the Atlantic Alliance, has dissolved. On March 16, the Atlantic Alliance would have celebrated the anniversary of its founding, if it still existed. The Atlantic region, at one time or another, has controlled over 24 regions, including the East, West, and South Pacifics, The Rejected Realms, and GLA. This news has sent shockwaves through Nationstates, as several defender groups were formed as a reaction to the aggression of the AA. With the goal of world domination, the Atlantic Alliance, though hated, played an integral part of this game. MrNonchalant, leader of the Atlantic Alliance, made it very clear that this event was not caused by outside organizations. “No one factor caused us to close up shop, and many of those [factors] had nothing to do with our opposition.” MrNonchalant cited growing apathy, high turnover, and falling membership in the organization. Much like the Soviet Union in 1989, the conclusion appeared sudden, but it was the result of several contributory events. MrNonchalant commented that “The collapse was anything but rapid, it just appeared that way to the outside world who hadn't been privy to the decay and apathy running rampant in the organization.”
The Minister of Foreign Affairs for Nederland, Ballotonia, concurred that many internal problems plagued the AA/ACC. “The AA had internal flaws in the way it made decisions, its internal communications in which those executing the operations were not sufficiently briefed about the how and why of the ordered activities, its subsequent low morale among the lower ranks, its inability to retain most enlisted soldiers for a long period of time, its lack of proper planning in activities and flawed ad-hoc tactics to make up for that deficiency, and its inability to get their personnel to properly follow NationStates rules and regulations.” While MrNonchalant insisted that no foreign power caused the breakdown, Ballotonia maintained that external events played a pivotal role. He noted that “Because of [the AAC’s] bad reputation, a problem which remained unaddressed by the leadership, a lot of regions and nations were looking to thwart whatever the AA did, leading to lots of failures, frustration, and de-motivation of their membership, which left the organization in an almost continuous stream.”
While the cause of the dissolution is under debate, the repercussions of this event are undergoing greater speculation. MrNonchalant washed his hands of the future of the various AAC protectorates and allies, stating “I certainly have no control over them now.” He speculated that he didn’t “think anyone’s tired of being mildly evil” and that “[we’ll] see a lot of former Atlantic members involved in things like the NPO and other region crashing organizations.” New Pacific Order Press Director Sir Paul noted that “The AA has made Nationstates exciting, and I hope that a new organization steps up to fill the void of the evil empire so the various defender alliances don’t get too bored.” Currently, Thomasia of the Meritocracy (once Supreme Commander Accelsior of the ACC) has founded the Black Guard and is attempting to fill the ranks with ex-AA personnel. Minister of Military Affairs Raptor was recently commissioned field commander of Black Guard’s Atlantic Division. Former Commanders MrNonchalant and New People are pursuing separate agendas. If they will “fill the void” remains to be seen, but it seems everyone can agree with Ballotonia’s take on the AA. “The ACC has proven to be a worthy adversary and has surely made its mark on NationStates. The true history of the game cannot be told without talking about the rise and fall of the ACC, which is an achievement to be proud of regardless of the eventual falling of the curtain.” Lari Sup, changing the outcome by observing it.
